Water Quality

The Kerr-Tar Regional Council of Governments (COG) works with these partners throughout the region to ensure sustainable development of these river basins.

• Neuse River Basin – The COG collaborates with the Upper Neuse River Basin Association to improve water quality and wastewater treatment in the basin region.

• Tar-Pamlico River Basin – The COG works with local governments and the state Department of Natural Resources to manage storm water run-off in ways that improve and safeguard water quality, and pursue urban water quality improvement programs.

• Roanoke River Basin – The COG works with regional governments to manage hydroelectric power generation along the river, partnering with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and states of North Carolina and Virginia on a study of Kerr-Tar Lake management. The COG will coordinate regional efforts with the North Carolina Roanoke River Basin Advisory Committee and the Bi-state Commission when they are formed to improve collaboration on natural resources management.
