Land Use

The Kerr-Tar Council of Governments (COG) offers technical assistance and information to help local governments and the public make better land-use planning decisions.

The COG provides:

  • Technical assistance to help local governments develop land use plans.
  • Demographic and economic information to help the public and local governments better tailor their services to meet current and future needs.

Hazard Mitigation Plan Updates

Local Hazard Mitigation Plan updates are due every five years, according to North Carolina state law. Grant funds are available to assist communities in financing these updates. More information can be found on the NC Division of Emergency Management website. The COG is available to assist with your plan update. Contact Shelby Powell for more information.

2010 Census Participant Statistical Area Program (PSAP)

The 2010 Participant Statistical Areas Program (PSAP) will allow designated participants, following Census Bureau guidelines, to review and suggest modifications to the boundaries for block groups, census tracts, census county divisions, and census designated places for reporting data from the 2010 Census. The American Community Survey and other Census Bureau programs may also report data for these statistical areas following the 2010 Census. More information about the PSAP timeline and program requirements is available on the US Census website. The COG is available to serve as your county's primary PSAP participant. Contact Shelby Powell for more information.
