Resurfacing Projects Awarded for Wake & Person Counties

Thanks to three new contracts awarded by the NC Department of Transportation, totaling nearly $8.2 million, about 30 miles of area roadway will be resurfaced.  

  • Under a $1.83 million contract, Fred Smith Company of Raleigh will mill and resurface pavement on the 1.7 mile stretch of Wade Avenue between Interstate 40 and I-440.  The four ramps at the Edwards Mill Road interchange will also be resurfaced.  Work can start in March and must be completed by next November.
  • Under a $2.44 million contract, Fred Smith Company will mill and resurface pavement and improve shoulders along 8.5 miles of state-maintained roads throughout central Wake County.  Major roads to be resurfaced as a part of this contract include Wilmington Street between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Rush Street, and New Hope Road between Poole and Rock Quarry roads.  This work can begin in March and must be complete by the end of June 2023.
  • Under a $3.9 million contract, Carolina Sunrock of Raleigh will mill and resurface pavement and improve shoulders along 20.3 miles of state-maintained roads throughout Person County.  Some of the roads to be resurfaced include NC 158/Leasburg Road and Satterfield, High Plains and Bowmantown roads.  This work can also begin in March and must be complete by the end of June 2023.
