Vance County Bridge Closed; Replaced Next Year

N.C. Department of Transportation crews closed a Vance County bridge today due to the deterioration of its superstructure.  The Weldons Mill Road bridge over Sandy Creek was built in 1949 and is set to be replaced next year.  The department is scheduled to award a contract to replace the bridge in February.  Work would begin in March and be completed by the end 2021.  Traffic will use New Bethel Church, County Line, Southerland Mill and Vicksboro roads to get around the closure.  Drivers should be mindful of crews working in this area and factor the detour into their commutes.  For real-time travel information, visit DriveNC.gov or follow NCDOT on social media.

Virtual Transportation Summit

BikeWalk NC is putting on a Transportation Summit November 5–6, 2020. This will be a virtual summit, focusing on Inclusive Transportation.  Registration for the Summit is now open.

In these times when discussions of inclusion and equity are at the forefront, transportation and mobility choices are often the beginning points for inequitable access to jobs, services, and even areas of recreation.

The Summit this year will feature the voices of many people not often heard from. There will be a panel on how to ensure the right people are at the table when discussing transportation projects that will affect them most, discussions on barriers our current transportation systems have on the visually impaired and the mobility disabled, sessions on the effects of land use choices and transportation projects on the environment, and more.

You can find more information about the program and speakers, as well as information about registration, at https://www.bikewalknc.org/nc-bikewalk-summit/
